Description

An imagined bird’s eye view of the State University of Kentucky, also known as the University of Kentucky. The artist responsible for this unusual view of the university, circa 1910, was Arthur J. Elder, a London born artist who studied with Walter Sickert. Elder moved to the United States, settled in San Francisco and, following the devastating earthquake of 1906, settled in the midwest. He was hired to create aerial views of campuses and landmarks by W.T. Littig & Co. This view shows the main campus and the streets surrounding the university. Much has changed in more than a century. This picture used the technique of copper engraving then the artist had colored the image. Faithfully reproduced by South Hill Gallery from the original hand colored etching that is no longer in print, this is a lovely collectable for persons with a love for U.K.

Giclee on fine art paper; 23″ wide x 14″ tall
