The Art of Michael Flohr - New to Central Kentucky
Michael lives and works in San Diego, CA. A gifted painter from a very young age, Michael often features his wife "Melody" in his urban scenes. We have a selection of small edition, hand embellished giclees - please come in and see these, as photographs don't do them justice!
Michael blends modern impressionistic ideals with abstract expressionism.
· Flohr derives his subject matter first hand by going to bars, restaurants and places where people meet. He will then sketch or a draw sometimes staying until late into the night to capture the right moment. Flohr will take this rendering into his studio where he will begin a painting, while trying to capture the energy felt the night before.
· Flohr executes his paintings with a strong confident brushstroke placed on the canvas in small squares. In this way his brushstrokes carefully placed with power under restraint.
· A juxtaposition of contemporary color. Flohr works in many layers of oil which creates an illusion of colors that are not actually painted onto the canvas. His masterful use of light enhances each work.
· Flohr has a great sense of compositional balance. Depth and detail can be seen from every angle.
· His style is impressionistic capturing modern day living, and abstract in color and design.
